STF Seizes Heroin Worth Rs 11 Crore in Amingaon, Two Arrested

Guwahati, Jan 13: The Special Task Force (STF) on January 12 seized a large consignment of heroin valued at around Rs 11 crore during an operation at Amingaon on the outskirts of Guwahati and arrested two persons in connection with the case.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs that narcotics were being transported from a neighbouring state, an STF team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak intercepted two vehicles — a Thar and a Maruti Jimny — during a late-night operation.

A search of the vehicles led to the recovery of 97 soap boxes containing heroin, concealed inside specially built secret compartments. Officials said 40 packets were seized from the Thar, while 57 packets were recovered from the Maruti Jimny. The total weight of the seized heroin was 1.358 kg, excluding the soap box covers, and the packaging was designed to evade detection.

The drivers of the vehicles were identified as Anowar Hussain Kaji (33) and Aminul Sikdar (33), both residents of Barpeta district. They were arrested on the spot.

Officials said necessary legal action has been initiated and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify other members of the drug trafficking network.
