Guwahati, April 4: A group of university students has appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to provide urgent financial assistance for the treatment of Rosy Deb, an MBA student critically injured in a road accident in Silchar.
The incident took place on March 28 in the Ambikapatti area, where Rosy was allegedly hit by a car driven by an intoxicated driver. She sustained severe injuries, particularly to her spine, and was initially taken to Silchar Medical College by local residents. Following preliminary treatment, doctors advised that she requires advanced medical care abroad due to the seriousness of her condition.
Police had earlier arrested the driver along with two others in connection with the incident. However, they were subsequently released, reportedly under legal pressure, triggering concern among locals and the student community.
Rosy was later shifted to AIIMS Guwahati for further treatment. However, her family is struggling to bear the high medical expenses, with limited financial resources hindering continued care.
Students have since mobilised efforts to raise funds, but the amount collected so far has fallen short of the required expenses. In a renewed appeal, they have urged the Chief Minister to intervene and ensure that Rosy receives the necessary treatment, including support for medical care abroad if required.
Emphasising the urgency of the situation, the students have called on the state government to step in and provide life-saving assistance.
