Sudhakantha Museum to Open at Royal Global University 

Guwahati: Assam Royal Global University (RGU) is set to inaugurate the Sudhakantha Museum on September 8, 2025, to mark the birth centenary of the legendary bard of the Brahmaputra, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. The event will also launch the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centenary Oration Series, scheduled from September 8 to 26. The inauguration will be graced by Assam’s Cultural Affairs Minister Shri Bimal Bora and celebrated Sattriya dancer and cultural ambassador Mridusmita Das Bora. The initiatives are being organized by the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Creativity at RGU to honour the maestro’s legacy and inspire future generations. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Professor Emeritus and Chair Professor of the Centre, stressed the importance of rekindling admiration for Bhupen Hazarika. “This year marks the birth centenary of Dr. Hazarika, and we believe it is an opportunity to regenerate public enthusiasm and admiration for him in a way that can endure for at least another 100 years,” he said. The oration series will feature eminent speakers, including historian Prof. Shiela Bora, cultural scholar Bimal Kumar Dev Medhi, and RGU professors P.J. Baruah, Pradip Jyoti Mahanta, and Surajit Mukhopadhyay, among others. Topics will range from Hazarika’s creative genius and philosophical insights to his role in shaping Assamese identity and universal cultural connections. The university has extended an open invitation to admirers of Bhupen Hazarika to attend the lectures and join in celebrating the enduring contributions of the “Sudhakantha” of Assam.
