Sivasagar: In a historic and emotional gathering, the Society for Tai Ahom Resurgence (STAR) hosted a reunion of Tai relatives at Yuva Dol in Sivasagar on Saturday, bringing together members of the Tai Royal Families from Myanmar and their counterparts from Assam — all descendants of Chaolung Sukapha, the founder of the Ahom dynasty.
The event served as a platform for cultural reconnection, celebrating centuries-old ties between the Tai communities across borders. Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, attending as a special guest, highlighted ongoing initiatives to revive and preserve Tai identity and heritage.
Speakers at the event emphasized that the reunion symbolized not just a familial bond but also a shared legacy of language, tradition, and historical pride. Participants praised STAR Chairman Hemanta Kumar Gogoi and his team for their tireless efforts in fostering Tai unity and cultural preservation.

Attendees also expressed hope that the renewed ties between Tai communities in Assam and Myanmar would pave the way for deeper cultural and historical collaboration.
The Tai Ahoms, who trace their ancestry to migrants from Yunnan, China, under Sukapha in 1228 CE, established a powerful kingdom in the Brahmaputra Valley that shaped Assam’s history for nearly six centuries. Known for their governance, diplomacy, and cultural assimilation, the Ahoms left an enduring mark on Assamese society — one that events like this reunion seek to honor and revive.
