Sports: Taiwanese badminton sensation Tai Tzu-ying has announced her retirement at 31, citing recurring injuries and the toll of prolonged rehabilitation. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Tai expressed gratitude for the sport that gave her so much, but acknowledged that it was time to move on. Her decision marks the end of an era in badminton, as Tai leaves behind a remarkable legacy as one of the most naturally gifted shuttlers of the modern era.

Tai’s retirement has prompted tributes from across the badminton world, including from her arch-rival PV Sindhu. Sindhu recalled the intense battles they shared, including their meetings at the Rio 2016 Olympics, the 2019 World Championships, and the Asian Games. “I hated playing you,” Sindhu wrote, “but beyond the rivalry, we built something meaningful – a quiet friendship and a deep respect shaped through years of battles only we understand.”

Tai’s achievements are a testament to her skill and dedication: BWF Female Player of the Year (2020-21), 17 BWF World Tour titles, silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and three-time Asian Champion.
