Tamil Nadu CM Unveils Trophy for FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025

Sports Desk: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday unveiled the trophy for the upcoming FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025 at a ceremony held at the Secretariat. The event marked a significant moment for Indian hockey as the global tournament prepares to be hosted in Chennai and Madurai from November 28 to December 10, 2025.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary Atulya Misra, IAS, and SDAT CEO J. Meghanatha Reddy, IAS. Also present were Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey, Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh, and Treasurer Thiru Sekar J. Manoharan, who also serves as President of the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu.

The 2025 edition will be the first Junior World Cup to feature 24 teams. Hosts India, champions in 2001 and 2016, have been drawn in Pool B with Oman, Chile, and Switzerland, and will open their campaign against Chile on November 28 at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium, Chennai.

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey expressed gratitude to the Tamil Nadu Government, calling it “a proud moment” to see the Chief Minister unveil the trophy. “Tamil Nadu has always been a strong supporter of Indian hockey, and its world-class facilities and passion will make this edition truly memorable,” he said.

Echoing his views, Bhola Nath Singh, Secretary General of Hockey India, said, “Hosting the Junior World Cup in India is an incredible opportunity for our young players. With the state’s infrastructure, dedicated fans, and government support, this event will inspire a new generation of hockey stars.”
