Bajali: Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu underscored the vital role of teachers and community participation in strengthening government schools and making them the preferred choice for parents through quality, student-centred education. Speaking after inaugurating the newly constructed Rs 8-crore main building of Bajali Higher Secondary School, Dr Pegu said government institutions form the backbone of Assam’s education system, accounting for nearly 70 per cent of schools in the state. He stressed that dedicated teaching and personal attention to students—especially those from economically weaker sections and students seated on the back benches—can significantly improve academic outcomes.
“When government schools perform well, parents gain confidence and enrolment rises. Higher student strength creates more opportunities and greater demand for teachers, strengthening the entire education ecosystem,” the minister said. Dr Pegu also highlighted that schools are not merely government-run institutions but community-driven centres of learning. While the government is investing heavily in modern infrastructure, he said the combined efforts of teachers, alumni bodies and local communities are essential for ensuring quality education and holistic student development.

Referring to Bajali Higher Secondary School, he noted that the institution currently has around 1,300 students and the potential to further increase enrolment with improved facilities. The three-storey main building was inaugurated in the presence of local MLA and minister Ranjeet Kumar Das, who traced the school’s journey from a thatched structure in 1926 to a modern educational complex in 2026.
