DHAKUAKHANA, Sept 8: Tension erupted during the annual general meeting of the Dhakuakhana Co-operative Marketing and Processing Society Limited after the society reported a financial deficit of Rs 5,335 for 2025-26.
Shareholders questioned the Board of Directors over the reported downturn, pointing out that the society had been operating for more than 25 years and owned significant assets, including one bigha of land, 26 commercial rooms and four godowns.
The society recorded total income of Rs 11,88,697 against expenditure of Rs 9,13,543 during the financial year.
Shareholders also criticised the management for keeping several commercial rooms locked instead of renting them to local unemployed youth seeking to start businesses.
The society’s internal audit report reportedly pointed to several irregularities, including poor maintenance of rent collection receipt books, tenants keeping rooms locked without paying rent and alleged failure by the management to take recovery measures. It also raised concerns over unaccounted claims relating to advance payments for room construction.
Local stakeholders and members demanded greater transparency and a review of management practices to restore the society’s financial position and strengthen its role in supporting the local economy.
