Dima Hasao: Tension gripped the Mahur area in Dima Hasao district following the suspicious death of 39-year-old Teuwangkambé Nyume, a resident of Nokiabanglo village. In protest against the incident, Mahur market remained completely shut till 12 PM on Monday, with traders, students, and local residents extending full support to the shutdown call. The protest reflected growing anger and concern among the public over the circumstances surrounding the death.
Nyume’s body was discovered on the morning of April 5 near a railway tunnel in the Mahur area. According to eyewitnesses and locals, the body bore multiple injuries, including swollen eyes, raising suspicions that the death may not have been accidental. The incident has sent shockwaves across the region, prompting local residents and student bodies to term it a suspected murder. They have demanded a thorough, impartial, and time-bound investigation into the case. Protesters warned that they would continue their agitation until justice is ensured.
