Itanagar, Aug 10: Tension has reportedly intensified along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border following the alleged shooting of a Mising youth by an unidentified person in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Siang district.
The incident was reportedly followed by a confrontation involving people from Assam’s Dhemaji district and Lower Siang, raising concerns in the sensitive inter-state border region.
According to preliminary reports, the shooting took place in the Lower Siang area. However, the identity of the alleged shooter and the circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been established.
The development comes amid reports of heightened tension between members of the Mising and Galo communities in areas along the border.
In a separate incident reportedly linked to the prevailing tension, eight people from Assam were allegedly injured in firing at Mingmang Basti following a dispute over land and alleged encroachment.
The injured have been identified as Sanjay Tayung, Durgeswar Patar, Rohit Doley, Nagaraj Doley, Pame Pegu, Utpal Doley, Jaan Doley and Bigneswar Patir.
The incidents have caused concern among residents on both sides of the inter-state boundary. Authorities are expected to investigate the reported firing and subsequent confrontations and take measures to prevent any further escalation.
