Guwahati:The Tezpur University Teachers’ Association (TUTA) has strongly condemned statements made by Prof Debendra Chandra Baruah, Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), calling them misleading and defamatory. Prof Baruah allegedly claimed that two faculty members, Dr Pranjal Kumar Gogoi and Dr Pankaj Barah, were the masterminds behind the ongoing protest at the university.
TUTA clarified that the protests were not orchestrated by any particular group, but rather a spontaneous movement involving students, teachers, and non-teaching staff across the university. The association asserted that the remarks made by Prof Baruah undermine the dignity of the faculty and university community, and attempt to malign individuals who have been peacefully advocating for transparency, accountability, and institutional integrity.
The agitation stems from widespread concerns about corruption, administrative irregularities, and the autocratic functioning of Vice-Chancellor Prof Shambhu Nath Singh and his associates. TUTA has demanded a formal apology from Prof Baruah, emphasizing the need for respectful communication to protect the institution’s reputation.
