Guwahati: Thousands of people converged at the Sasolpara playground in Loharghat, Azara, on October 31 in a powerful show of solidarity demanding justice for singer Zubeen Garg. The massive gathering, which drew participants from across South Kamrup including the Barduwa-Bagan region, was described by organisers as a spontaneous and voluntary demonstration.
Raja Barua, a close associate of the late music icon, delivered a strong message during the protest, warning that those allegedly involved in any conspiracy surrounding Garg’s death would face the collective outrage of millions of supporters. “The people will not remain silent,” Barua declared, as the crowd erupted in chants of support.
Artist Panchana Rabha also addressed the gathering, emphasising the need for transparency and accountability from the authorities. She urged the government to ensure justice for Zubeen Garg, warning that if institutional action failed, public sentiment would inevitably find its own way to seek redress.
Protesters took out a procession through the streets, chanting slogans such as “Justice for Zubeen Garg,” “Give Zubeen Da Justice,” and “We Will Stand United.” Many also voiced anger at the state government, shouting “BJP Government Beware” as they marched peacefully.
The demonstration witnessed wide participation cutting across communities, with people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds uniting in grief and determination. Both Barua and Rabha joined the marchers, walking shoulder to shoulder with supporters who had come together not under any formal banner, but out of shared love and respect for the artist who defined an era of Assamese music.
The rally in Azara reflected a growing wave of emotion across Assam, where public calls for justice over Zubeen Garg’s death continue to intensify.
