Three Arrested for Alleged Gang Rape of Two Minor Girls in Assam; Woman Detained Over Survivor Video

SILCHAR, Aug. 6: Three persons have been arrested in Assam’s Cachar district for allegedly abducting and gang raping two minor girls from Mizoram, while a woman has been detained for allegedly filming the survivors inside court premises and attempting to circulate the video on social media.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Cachar Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rajat Kumar Pal said the incident was reported on August 3, when the two girls from Kolasib district in Mizoram were allegedly lured into a vehicle and taken to Pakaihbil under Dholai Police Station in Cachar district.

Police said the girls were allegedly sexually assaulted before being abandoned by the roadside, after which the accused fled the scene.

Following the complaint, Dholai Police launched an investigation and arrested the three accused. They were produced before a court and remanded to police custody for further interrogation. The statements of both survivors have also been recorded.

As part of the investigation, police reconstructed the crime scene on Wednesday after taking the accused to the alleged spot of the offence. A vehicle suspected to have been used in the crime was also seized.

Meanwhile, police detained a woman from Bhagabazar in Dholai for allegedly recording videos of the minor survivors when they were brought to court and attempting to circulate the footage on social media. She is being questioned.

Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant provisions of law. Officials said the investigation is continuing and strict legal action will be taken against all those found involved.
