Three Arrested in Kamrup as Police Seize 1.4 Kg of Fake Gold During Vehicle Check

Guwahati, Dec 29: Police in Assam’s Kamrup district have arrested three individuals and seized more than one kilogram of counterfeit gold biscuits following a vehicle interception on December 28. The operation was carried out by Rangia police based on specific intelligence inputs, officials said.

According to the police, the recovery was made after officers stopped and searched a vehicle that was heading towards Tamulpur district. Officer-in-charge Premankur Hazarika said the inspection led to the seizure of fake gold biscuits weighing a total of 1.4 kilograms. The consignment consisted of 90 pieces weighing 10 grams each and another 100 pieces weighing 5 grams each.

The arrested persons include two men from Bokajan in Assam and one individual from Rajasthan. Police also seized the vehicle used for transporting the counterfeit items, along with three mobile phones believed to be linked to the operation.

A case has been registered in connection with the seizure, and investigators are now probing the origin of the fake gold and its intended destination. Police said further investigation is underway to identify any wider network involved in the circulation of counterfeit precious metals.
