Three Arrested, Suspected Heroin Seized in Anti-Drug Operation at Banderdewa Check Gate

Banderdewa, June 4: In a major operation against drug trafficking, Banderdewa Police arrested three alleged drug peddlers and seized suspected heroin during a naka checking drive at the Banderdewa Check Gate on June 3.

Police said the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of narcotic substances from Assam into Arunachal Pradesh. Acting on the information, a team led by Inspector Kipa Hamak, Officer-in-Charge of Banderdewa Police Station, along with Sub-Inspectors B. Pegu and T. Hinda, Lady Constable Rita Devi and CRPF personnel, set up a checkpoint and intercepted a Maruti Alto K10 bearing registration number AR-01V-3694.

During a detailed search of the vehicle, the police team recovered 30 vials containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 38.70 grams, including the weight of the containers. The three occupants of the vehicle were detained at the spot and subsequently arrested.

The accused have been identified as Khyoda Mama of Jully-Jollang in Itanagar, Khoda Tadi of F&G Sector in Itanagar, and Guriya Rai of Chimpu in Papum Pare district.

Following the seizure, Banderdewa Police registered a case under Sections 21(b) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigators are now working to determine the source of the contraband and uncover any wider trafficking network linked to the case.

The operation was carried out under the overall supervision of Nyelam Nega as part of an ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and related crimes in the Itanagar Capital Region.

Police officials said surveillance and enforcement measures at key entry points into Arunachal Pradesh would be further intensified to curb the illegal movement of narcotics into the state.
