
Tezpur: Kalabithika on its 9th Foundation Day on Wednesday kicked off a three day Art Exhibition at Asomiya Club here with participation of young artists as commemoration event of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika just before wide celebration of birth centenary of the legend across the state. It is to be mentioned that Kalabithika, established within the premises of the Asomiya Club in 2017, has dedicated this year’s foundation celebration to Sudhakantha. The exhibition featuring 103 artworks in diverse styles created by 55 young artists aged between 16 and 50 was inaugurated by former Vice Principal of Tezpur College, Sailaja Kumar Padmapati. After the inauguration, Padmapati, along with eminent artist-sculptor Kumud Baruah, retired Principal of Darrang College Dr. Abani Kumar Sarma, Executive President of Asomiya Club Pankaj Kumar Bora, General Secretary Anu Devi Mahanta, retired professor Dr. Suchitra Devi and several other distinguished personalities lit the ceremonial lamp at the portrait of Sudhakantha and paid a rich floral tribute. In his address during the programme convenor of Kalabithika and noted artist Mrigen Kalita said that the initiative has created a healthy and vibrant atmosphere for visual arts in Tezpur. Speaking on the occasion, Padmapati also shared his experiences of visiting various art galleries across the country and abroad, adding that the works displayed here reflect similar artistic promise. Following this nationally acclaimed artist Ratumoni Das along with the guests and attendees visited the gallery and expressed deep appreciation of the 103 paintings on display, representing varied styles and creativity of the young artists.
