Three Killed After Truck Plunges Into Gorge in Sikkim’s Gyalshing District

Gangtok, March 2: Three men were killed after a truck carrying construction materials veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Sikkim’s Gyalshing district in the early hours of March 1, police said.

According to initial reports, the vehicle was travelling from Dentam to Gyalshing along the hazardous Tikzeck Veer stretch when the accident occurred. The route is known for its difficult terrain, and authorities are examining the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.

The deceased have been identified as the driver, Pradeep Chettri, 40, a resident of Salley, and two labourers — 18-year-old Nagendra Gurung from Lingchom and 20-year-old Onchen Bhutia from Sindrabong.

Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the mishap, as concerns continue to mount over the risks posed by challenging road conditions in the region. Further details are awaited as officials gather more information.
