Three people, including a woman, died and three others suffered serious injuries after a Hyundai i10 carrying a family crashed into a roadside safety railing on National Highway 37 in Assam’s Khetri on Tuesday.
The car, bearing registration number AS 01 DX 5663, was travelling from Guwahati towards Nagaon when the driver reportedly lost control. The vehicle veered off the road and struck the railing with considerable force, killing three occupants at the spot.
The remaining three passengers sustained serious injuries and were rescued by local residents and police who reached the scene soon after the crash. The injured were taken to a hospital for treatment.
The circumstances leading to the accident have not yet been established. Preliminary information indicated that the car may have been travelling at high speed before the driver lost control.
Police have launched an investigation into the crash.
