Three Militants Arrested in Coordinated Manipur Police Operations Across Three Districts

Imphal: Manipur Police arrested three active militants belonging to different insurgent outfits in coordinated operations carried out across Churachandpur, Kakching, and Imphal West districts on Thursday. The arrests also led to the recovery of weapons and identification documents.

In Churachandpur, police apprehended 18-year-old Haominthang Haokip, an active member of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), from Old Gelmoul locality. A pistol with two live rounds, a mobile phone, and an Aadhaar card were seized from his possession. Police said Haokip had been involved in extortion and illegal fund collection from traders and residents in the district.

In a separate operation in Kakching district, security personnel arrested 23-year-old Salam Sushil Singh, identified as an active cadre of the KCP (Taibanganba) faction. He was detained from his residence at Kakching Wairi Bamon Pareng. A mobile phone, Aadhaar card, and PAN card were recovered during the arrest.

Meanwhile, in Imphal West, police detained 42-year-old Shamjetsabam Sanjit Singh, also known by the aliases Inaobi and Nongshaba, from Sangaithel Makha Leikai under Patsoi police station. Singh is believed to be an active member of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA). A mobile phone was seized from him.

All three individuals are currently in police custody, with further investigation underway.

The arrests come amid intensified state-wide efforts to dismantle extortion networks and curb militant activity in Manipur.
