Three PREPAK Cadres Arrested in Imphal West, Thoubal Operations

Imphal, Dec 30: Security forces in Manipur arrested three active members of the banned militant outfit PREPAK in separate operations carried out in Imphal West and Thoubal districts over the past two days, officials said.

In Imphal West district, a husband and wife associated with the PREPAK G-5 faction were taken into custody on December 29 from their residential area under Lamphel police station. The arrested duo were identified as Konthoujam Chaoba Meitei, also known as Punshiba, and his wife Kongthoujam Sharmila Leima, also known as Nanao. Police said a mobile phone was recovered from the husband during the operation.

In another operation conducted a day earlier, security personnel apprehended an active cadre of PREPAK (PRO) along National Highway-102 near the gate of the district hospital in Thoubal. The accused was identified as Chandam Chandramani Singh, also known by the aliases Ghambir and Tamyanganba. A mobile phone and a SIM card were seized from his possession.

Officials said the arrests were part of intensified efforts to crack down on militant-linked extortion and unlawful activities in the state. Further investigation into the network and activities of the arrested cadres was ongoing.
