Imphal: NSCN-IM chief and Ato Kilonser of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN), Thuingaleng Muivah, was accorded a grand reception upon his arrival at Senapati district headquarters, Tahamzam, on Wednesday, October 29.
More than 30,000 people from across Manipur’s Naga-inhabited districts gathered to welcome the veteran Naga leader, turning Senapati into a vibrant centre of celebration, unity, and cultural pride. The event saw traditional songs, dances, and Naga flags waving as Muivah passed through the town.
Delegates from various Naga districts attended the reception, marking Muivah’s first return to his native region in five decades. The programme formed part of a week-long visit from October 22 to 29, during which he is scheduled to address public gatherings and meet key community leaders.
The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) extended a ceremonial welcome by unfurling the Naga National Flag at its office, reiterating its support for the Framework Agreement, including recognition of the Naga flag and constitution.
Addressing the gathering, ANSAM President Angteshang Maring said, “With hearts burning in pride and spirits anchored in purpose, the Naga youths and students of Manipur rise in unity to welcome our most revered leader, Th. Muivah, the living embodiment of the Naga political struggle.”
Maring hailed Muivah as a “living legend whose life has been a song of sacrifice, courage, and unbreakable conviction for the Naga nation.”
The event symbolised not only deep respect for Muivah but also a renewed expression of Naga identity and solidarity amid ongoing discussions surrounding the Framework Agreement.
Muivah is expected to deliver a key address later in the evening, marking a significant chapter in the enduring Naga peace movement.
