Itanagar, Jan 24: In a move aimed at improving tourism infrastructure and strengthening community-led growth in India’s remote frontier areas, new tourist facilities were inaugurated in Dibang Valley near the Indo-China border during the Pre-Reh Festival celebrations at Angrim Valley.
The inauguration was led by Anini MLA and Advisor to the Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Geology & Mining, Mope Mihu, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Bekir Nyorak, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Sadhu Mihu and senior district officials. The newly opened infrastructure includes a Tourist Centre, a Tourist Lodge and a Community Hall, designed to improve amenities for visitors while supporting social and economic development at the local level.
Speaking at the event, Mihu emphasised the role of sustainable and responsible tourism in creating livelihood opportunities in border districts. He said the facilities would help draw more visitors to the natural landscapes of Dibang Valley, while ensuring that local communities benefit directly through employment, entrepreneurship and the preservation of indigenous traditions.
The inauguration coincided with the Pre-Reh Festival, an important cultural celebration of the Idu Mishmi community that features traditional rituals, music and customary practices. The festival provided a culturally rich backdrop to the development initiative, highlighting the region’s heritage and collective identity.
Officials said the new infrastructure is expected to strengthen Dibang Valley’s position as an emerging tourism destination, encouraging community participation and balanced development. The initiative, they added, reflects the government’s broader focus on integrating cultural preservation, economic growth and strategic development in sensitive border regions.
