Tribal Pride Day observed in Bargang

Biswanath Chariali: Birsa Munda was a great hero of the struggle against British colonial rule. In parallel, he fought another strong struggle for tribal rights and culture. With such greatness, he became a god for the tribals and a legendary figure in the history of the country. The 150th birth anniversary of this legendary figure was observed in Behali co-district under Biswanath district today. The event was held at Srimanta Sankardev auditorium, Bargang in the district. The Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, Sarbananda Sonowal attended the function and paid tributes by lighting lamps in front of the portrait of the legendary man Birsa Munda. The program also broadcast live the speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the National Program held at Dediapara in Narmada district of Gujarat. Earlier to this, the Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid wreaths at the bust of Birsa Munda at Behali Tin Ali. The event was attended by Sonitpur Lok Sabha MP Ranjit Dutta, Biswanath MLA Pramod Barthakur, Behali MLA Diganta Ghatwaal, Biswanath Zila Parishad President Sunita Tanti, District Commissioner Simanta Kumar Das and SSP Ajgouran Basumatary, social worker Asim Das and others. Earlier to this event, an exhibition programme organized to showcase the tribal food, cloths, agricultural equipment etc. was inaugurated by District Commissioner Simanta Kumar Das.
