Agartala: Tripura has witnessed a significant decline in both infant and maternal mortality rates, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on November 8, attributing the achievement to the state’s continued investment in healthcare infrastructure and services.
Speaking at the 19th annual conference of the Tripura chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India at the KLS Auditorium of Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital, Saha said the state’s healthcare system has undergone “unprecedented improvements” in recent years.
The Chief Minister highlighted that several complex surgeries, once deemed impossible within the state, are now being successfully performed. “Kidney transplants are now taking place in Tripura, and efforts are underway to initiate liver transplants as well,” he stated, adding that the government’s goal is to ensure that residents no longer have to travel outside the state for advanced medical treatment.
Saha emphasised that the government’s focus is on strengthening public confidence in the healthcare system by improving both accessibility and modernisation. He noted that equal priority is being given to urban and rural healthcare, with trauma centres and upgraded facilities being developed in district and sub-divisional hospitals.
“The infant and maternal mortality rates have significantly come down due to continuous improvements in health services,” the Chief Minister said, reaffirming his government’s commitment to advancing healthcare across all levels.
He further announced the expansion of telemedicine services at Agartala Government Medical College to improve patient access. “Authorities have been instructed to set up a dedicated studio to ensure patients get better benefits from telemedicine,” Saha added.
The event also saw two doctors being felicitated for their exemplary service to the medical field, while a medical student was honoured for outstanding academic performance. Saha reiterated that the state’s vision is not only to modernise its healthcare infrastructure but to make quality medical care accessible to every citizen in Tripura.
