Agartala, April 12: Polling for 28 seats of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council commenced at 7 am on April 11, with officials reporting an early voter turnout of around 22 per cent within the first two hours of voting.
Authorities said the election process is being conducted under strict security arrangements, with continuous monitoring in place to ensure peaceful and fair polling across the region.
A total of 173 candidates are in the fray, representing major political parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian National Congress, Tipra Motha Party, and the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura, making the contest a closely watched multi-cornered battle.
Election officials stated that 9,62,547 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots at 1,257 polling stations established across the council areas.
Security has been significantly strengthened, particularly in vulnerable locations. Authorities confirmed that area domination exercises and flag marches were conducted ahead of polling to maintain order and confidence among voters.
Additionally, 24 companies of Central Armed Police Forces have been deployed across the region to ensure law and order and facilitate smooth conduct of the election.
