Tripura has secured investment proposals exceeding Rs 30,000 crore over the past year, with projects worth more than Rs 8,000 crore already taking shape on the ground, Chief Minister Manik Saha said on June 12 while addressing the Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog.
Highlighting the state’s economic progress, Saha said Tripura’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has doubled over the last six years and noted that the state has emerged as the third fully literate state in the country.
He said several major companies are showing interest in the state, with Bharti Airtel among those establishing strategic infrastructure. According to the chief minister, the company is setting up a data centre in Agartala to cater to eastern India.
Saha also underlined the government’s efforts towards empowering women and youth. He said nearly 4.96 lakh rural women are currently associated with 55,676 self-help groups across the state. He added that the “Samriddhi” campaign has improved access to credit for women-led SHGs and enterprises, while initiatives are underway to integrate SHG-based micro-enterprises into the formal MSME sector.
Emphasising administrative reforms, the chief minister said Tripura has achieved complete digitalisation and paperless governance across all levels, from the state cabinet to gram panchayats.
He said the government has adopted the “Lakshya 2047” vision document in line with the national objective of Viksit Bharat @2047, aimed at building an inclusive, secure, prosperous and healthy society.
Saha further highlighted developments in healthcare and education, stating that the number of MBBS seats in the state has increased from 225 to 550, while postgraduate medical seats have risen from 85 to 196 in recent years.
He also pointed to progress in tourism infrastructure, citing the development of the Tripura Sundari Temple Tourism Circuit and the Buddhist Circuit as key initiatives intended to boost tourism and stimulate economic activity in the state.
