Agartala: Tripura BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee on Thursday condemned the violence that reportedly broke out following the 24-hour strike called by the Tripura Civil Society, stating that those responsible would face strict action.
Bhattacharjee visited GB Pant Hospital in Agartala to meet the injured, including an engineer and a Block Development Officer (BDO), who were attacked in Santirbazar village under Salema block of Dhalai district during the bandh.
Speaking to the media, he said the issues raised by the protesting group — including the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord and action against illegal infiltration — had already been discussed in the Assembly. “The Chief Minister has given a clear answer. A tripartite agreement was reached, and the final decision rests with Delhi. But in the name of protest, such heinous acts of violence are painful and condemnable,” Bhattacharjee said.
He added that Chief Minister Manik Saha is closely monitoring the situation and has already issued a strong statement. “Hooliganism in the name of civil society will not be tolerated. The government will take strict action, and no one involved in the violence will be spared. We stand firmly with the victims,” he stated.
Bhattacharjee further confirmed that the matter has been communicated to the central leadership, with a meeting scheduled to discuss further action. He warned that attempts to disturb the communal harmony maintained during Durga Puja and Diwali would not be allowed to succeed.
