Tripura BJP Discusses Dharmanagar By-Poll, TTAADC Elections in Core Committee Meeting

Agartala, March 13: The Bharatiya Janata Party in Tripura held a core committee meeting on March 12 at the party’s state office in Agartala to deliberate on preparations for the upcoming by-election to the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency, the polls to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, and other organisational matters including the selection of the next Speaker.

The Dharmanagar seat fell vacant after the demise of Biswabandhu Sen in February this year.

The meeting was attended by Manik Saha, state BJP president and Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharya, former MPs Rebati Tripura and Pratima Bhoumik, ministers Ratan Lal Nath and Pranajit Singha Roy, party in-charge Rajdeep Roy, and BJP state general secretaries Bipin Debbarma and Bhagaban Das.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Saha said the party reviewed preparations for the forthcoming elections and prepared a list of probable candidates. He stated that several names were discussed during the meeting and the list would be forwarded to the party’s central leadership for a final decision.

Saha said the discussions focused on the by-election for the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency and the upcoming TTAADC polls, adding that the party had deliberated on potential candidates and its overall political strategy.

On the question of contesting the elections with alliance partners, the chief minister said that the TIPRA Motha Party and the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura continue to remain alliance partners of the BJP. He added that there was no confusion regarding the alliance arrangement.

Saha further said that although the BJP has proposed contesting all 28 seats in the TTAADC election, the final decision on seat-sharing and alliance arrangements will be taken by the party’s central leadership.
