The Tripura government on Sunday ordered the closure of all government, government-aided and private schools in West Tripura and Sepahijala districts following continuous heavy rainfall, while also postponing the Tripura Board of Secondary Education’s (TBSE) ‘Bochor Bachao’ examination.
According to an official communication, the decision was taken after persistent rainfall continued across the two districts, with forecasts indicating that the downpour would persist for another two to three hours, prompting concerns over the safety of students.
District Education Officers (DEOs) have been instructed to issue immediate orders to ensure that all schools in the affected districts remain closed for the day.
In a separate notification, the Secondary Education Department announced that Monday’s ‘Bochor Bachao’ examination under the TBSE had been postponed because of the prevailing adverse weather conditions. DEOs have been directed to implement the order and notify all concerned educational institutions.
The government said the precautionary measures were aimed at ensuring the safety of students, teachers and school staff amid the ongoing spell of heavy rain.
With waterlogging reported from several low-lying areas and rainfall continuing in different parts of the state, authorities have advised residents to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel.
The Education Department said a fresh date for the postponed examination would be announced later, while district administrations continue to monitor the weather situation in coordination with the relevant departments.
