Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on October 28 underscored the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet in driving social and economic progress, urging citizens to use technology responsibly for the greater good.
Speaking at the launch of Wi-Fi facilities in 11 government colleges (Phase II) and the inauguration of the Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogayog Yojana (2024–25) at the Government Arts and Crafts College, Lichu Bagan, Agartala, CM Saha said that technology, when used wisely, can empower individuals and strengthen institutions across all sectors. The event was jointly organised by the Information Technology Department and the Higher Education Department.
“Having a Wi-Fi system brings multiple benefits to both students and institutions. So far, Wi-Fi services have been launched in 19 government colleges across the state, and today we are extending this facility to 11 more institutions. This initiative will greatly enhance students’ access to technology and learning resources,” the Chief Minister said.
Highlighting the importance of digital connectivity, he credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a technologically empowered India and called the country’s youth — who make up around 60–65 per cent of the population — its greatest strength. “This is our matter of pride; no other country has such a vast young population,” he remarked.
Expressing optimism about Tripura’s growth trajectory, CM Saha noted that the state had recently been declared India’s third fully literate state after Goa and Mizoram, as per UNESCO guidelines. “Technology now influences every sphere of life, and we must continue to integrate it effectively. With Wi-Fi now available in colleges, students won’t have to spend from their own pockets for Internet access,” he added.
He also spoke about the state’s Start-up Policy, aimed at fostering innovation and attracting investments, noting that companies like Airtel have already been allotted space to set up data centres.
“AI and the Internet must be used to accelerate growth and improve lives. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp show how deeply technology is integrated into our daily routines. The ultimate goal should be to use these tools for the betterment of society,” CM Saha said, concluding his address with an appeal to use technology ethically and purposefully.
