Tripura CM Manik Saha Reviews Post-Poll Violence, Orders Swift Relief and Crackdown

Agartala, April 24: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha visited multiple affected areas after returning from election campaigning in West Bengal, assessing damage and directing immediate action in response to post-poll violence across the state.

Accompanied by Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag and senior district officials, the Chief Minister reviewed the ground situation and ongoing relief operations. He instructed authorities to restore normalcy, complete damage assessments and initiate compensation for affected families without delay.

Firm directions were issued to law enforcement agencies to take decisive action against those responsible for the violence. Senior officials have since been deployed in sensitive locations, with enhanced surveillance and preventive measures aimed at stabilising the situation.

Tensions have continued since the declaration of Autonomous District Council election results on April 17, with multiple incidents reported from different parts of the state.

West Tripura District Magistrate Vishal Kumar urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or provocative activity. He confirmed that relief efforts are underway, stating that authorities have been working under strict instructions to verify incidents and extend assistance simultaneously. Officials, including Block Development Officers and Sub-Divisional Magistrates, have been deployed in the field to monitor vulnerable areas and respond to emerging concerns.

Kumar said the situation is presently under control, with the administration maintaining close coordination with stakeholders. He appealed to citizens not to be influenced by misinformation or provocations and to cooperate with authorities in maintaining peace.

Meanwhile, several houses belonging to workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party were reportedly vandalised, forcing families to take shelter in government facilities and safer locations. Reports indicated that those affected fled amid fears of further attacks allegedly carried out by supporters of the Tipra Motha Party following their electoral victory.
