Tripura CM Manik Saha Unveils 40-Foot Saraswati Idol at Grand Puja Celebration in Agartala

Agartala, Jan 23: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on January 22 unveiled a towering 40-foot idol of Goddess Saraswati in Agartala, lending scale and prominence to one of the state’s largest Saraswati Puja celebrations this year. The installation, located at Ward No. 40 under the Agartala Municipal Corporation, drew large crowds and transformed the premises of Bardawali Higher Secondary School into a vibrant centre of devotion and cultural activity.

The idol was unveiled during the Bani Bandana programme organised by the Dhaar Committee, where the Chief Minister offered prayers alongside devotees. Addressing reporters at the venue, Saha noted that the celebration was being held in his own assembly constituency and highlighted Tripura’s rich tradition of festivals. He remarked that the state observes a wide spectrum of religious events throughout the year, reflecting its deeply rooted cultural ethos.

Emphasising the significance of Saraswati Puja, Saha described the occasion as a tribute to the goddess of learning and wisdom. He said the festival carried special relevance for the youth, expressing hope that education and intellect would empower young people to contribute meaningfully to the progress of the state. The six-day programme, organised by the local corporator, is set to feature a series of cultural events alongside religious observances.

The Chief Minister also used the occasion to recognise contributions to society, presenting awards and felicitations to individuals associated with social, cultural and educational initiatives. He interacted with residents and commended the organisers for fostering community participation and preserving traditional practices.

Adding to the festive mood, a fair organised alongside the puja attracted steady footfall throughout the day. The presence of local representatives, community leaders and devotees underscored the cultural and spiritual importance of Saraswati Puja in Tripura, with the monumental idol standing as the centrepiece of the celebrations.
