Tripura Chief Minister and Home Minister Manik Saha on Friday said the state government had adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and would take action against any police personnel found involved in narcotics-related activities.
Responding to a question by Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy in the Legislative Assembly, Saha said the conviction rate in cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act had reached 14.7 per cent till July 2026.
Roy raised concerns over the alleged involvement of police personnel in the drug trade and questioned how the government could effectively tackle major traffickers if members of the force were themselves implicated.
Saha said the government was working with agencies including the police and BSF to curb drug trafficking and consumption. He added that authorities were focusing on improving investigations and convictions, while awareness programmes were also being conducted.
The Chief Minister said action had already been taken against personnel found involved in drug-related offences and reiterated that no compromise would be made. He said the government would continue to act against both drug consumption and trafficking in accordance with the law.
