Tripura Drug Bust: 4.5 Lakh Yaba Tablets Worth Rs 45 Crore Seized in Khowai District

Agartala, Feb 16: A major anti-narcotics operation in Tripura’s Khowai district has led to the seizure of Yaba tablets valued at an estimated Rs 45 crore, with security forces intercepting a truck in Mungiakami following specific intelligence inputs.

The operation was conducted by the Assam Rifles in coordination with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. Acting on actionable information, the joint team stopped a TATA truck bearing registration number AS-01T-C7674 during the operation.

Upon searching the vehicle, officials recovered approximately 4.5 lakh Yaba tablets, a synthetic stimulant frequently trafficked across the North East. The scale of the seizure highlights the continuing use of regional routes for the movement of narcotics.

One individual, identified as 42-year-old Hafijul Hoque from Udalguri district in Assam, was apprehended in connection with the consignment.

Authorities have handed over the seized contraband and the accused to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation and legal proceedings under relevant laws. In a statement, the Assam Rifles said the operation reflects sustained efforts by security agencies to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
