Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday launched a WhatsApp-based complaint reporting system and an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered response mechanism to improve civic services in Agartala, aiming to make the city a “zero-complaint” area.
The initiative was unveiled at Rabindra Bhavan on October 9, alongside the virtual foundation stone laying for two drinking water projects at Collegetila in Ward No. 24 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC).
The water projects comprise a surface water treatment plant with a capacity of 6.81 million litres and an overhead tank capable of holding 680 kilolitres. The two projects will involve an investment of Rs 18.17 crore, Saha said.
He also flagged off 10 vehicles fitted with modern facilities for the Chief Minister’s Rapid Response Team. The vehicles and truck-mounted water tankers were procured at a cost of Rs 2.78 crore, according to an official statement.
Saha said the new digital grievance mechanism would enable residents to report civic problems and receive responses more efficiently. He described it as a first for Tripura and said it was expected to serve residents across all four zones of the municipal corporation.
The system will supplement the state government’s existing ‘Amar Sarkar’ portal by providing another channel for citizens to seek redressal of local issues.
Emphasising the importance of drinking water infrastructure, the Chief Minister said the government was working to ensure a reliable supply of clean water in every AMC ward. He said access to safe drinking water was essential for creating a citizen-friendly urban environment.
Saha acknowledged that ongoing road construction and water pipeline works had caused temporary inconvenience in some localities, but maintained that the problems would be resolved after the projects were completed.
He also alleged that drinking water infrastructure in Agartala had not been renovated during the previous 25 years of government, leaving residents to face several difficulties.
