Agartala, Aug 1: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said the state government is prioritising all-round development by focusing on infrastructure, social welfare and administrative reforms, asserting that Tripura is now competing with some of the country’s fastest-developing states.
Speaking after inaugurating several development projects at Khowai Town Hall, Saha said the government was placing special emphasis on road connectivity, drinking water, electricity, agriculture, rural and urban development, information technology and social security. The programme was organised by the Khowai district administration.
Describing the day as significant for the district, the chief minister said seven projects implemented by various departments, including Social Welfare and Social Education, Rural Development, Drinking Water and Sanitation, and Urban Development, were inaugurated. Eight Smart OPD kits were also distributed under the Health and Family Welfare Department. He said the state was advancing through the use of technology in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.
Saha also launched a subsidised mortuary vehicle service under the Health and Family Welfare Department. Under the initiative, families transporting bodies from GB Hospital or IGM Hospital in Agartala will pay Rs 1,000 per trip, while Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) beneficiaries will pay Rs 500. He said assistance would also be extended to those unable to afford the charges.
The chief minister said projects worth Rs 8.9 crore inaugurated during the programme would improve public services and strengthen infrastructure for future generations. He noted that projects worth nearly Rs 1,500 crore had been inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid across the state during the previous financial year.
Highlighting the government’s development agenda, Saha said Tripura was progressing under the Centre’s Act East Policy and the vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas”. He stressed that inclusive development of marginalised communities was essential for the state’s overall progress.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to transparency and performance-based governance, Saha said development efforts were being extended beyond Agartala to villages, towns and remote areas to ensure that the benefits of government schemes reached every household.
The chief minister further claimed that the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) had doubled by 2025, while purchasing power, infrastructure and the law and order situation had improved significantly. He said Tripura was making steady progress in good governance and administrative reforms.
The programme was attended by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, Khowai Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Singha Roy (Datta), MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, Khowai Municipal Council Chairperson Debashish Nath Sharma, Khowai District Magistrate Rajat Pant, Superintendent of Police B. Jagadishwar Reddy and other officials.
