AGARTALA, Oct 4: Tripura’s Public Works Department (PWD) is developing a digital platform to bring information on existing, ongoing and proposed infrastructure projects across departments under a single system.
The initiative is being developed under the Integrated Transport Network Development Plan (ITNDP), part of the World Bank-funded Tripura Urban Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project. PWD Road and Building Wing Chief Engineer Anup Kumar Das said the department aims to prepare and adopt the plan within the next one-and-a-half years.
“Through this plan, a digital portal will be created where information about existing infrastructure, ongoing projects and future projects of different departments will be compiled,” Das said.
The proposed platform will cover roads and bridges as well as railways, airports, goods transportation and other communication infrastructure. The plan will also seek to improve the movement of agricultural produce and strengthen trade connectivity with Bangladesh.
Das said the ITNDP would bring villages, markets, major roads, railways, goods transportation centres and border areas into an integrated framework to identify infrastructure required for increased cross-border trade.
The project also includes around 416.47 km of rural roads, two testing laboratories for rural products and passenger transport centres.
The plan is intended to provide a long-term roadmap for Tripura’s transport infrastructure by identifying requirements for new roads, transport centres and other connectivity facilities. It will also map routes for moving agricultural produce from rural areas to markets and determine where transport centres and links to railways and major roads are needed.
