The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) revised its target on 17 November to empower 1.35 lakh women as ‘Lakhpati Didis’ during the current financial year. The decision followed a state-level steering committee meeting chaired by Rural Development Department Secretary Abhishek Singh on 15 November at the civil secretariat.
TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma said the initial target of creating 1.08 lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’—women from self-help groups whose annual household income had crossed ₹1 lakh—had already been achieved, prompting the enhancement. He said necessary measures would be taken to meet the revised goal, and the Ministry of Rural Development would be informed.
On 25 October, Chief Minister Manik Saha disbursed ₹100 crore to 1,00,000 ‘Lakhpati Didis’ to support their income-generating activities. South Tripura currently leads the state with 21,898 women under the initiative.
The ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme is a central government programme aimed at improving the livelihoods of rural women by helping them achieve sustainable income levels.
