Tripura Records Dry December with Persistent Dense Fog, 100% Rainfall Deficit

Agartala, Jan 6: Tripura witnessed largely dry weather conditions in December 2025, accompanied by frequent dense fog episodes and a complete shortfall in rainfall, according to a report released by the Meteorological Centre, Agartala.

The report noted that the state experienced 11 dense foggy days during the month, including six days classified as very dense fog. These conditions were predominantly observed during late night to early morning hours, significantly reducing visibility in several parts of the state.

Temperatures during the month mostly remained near normal. The lowest minimum temperature of 11.6 degrees Celsius was recorded at Agartala Airport on December 31. The average mean minimum temperature stood at 13.9 degrees Celsius, about 0.9 degrees above the normal level. Meanwhile, the highest maximum temperature reached 30.4 degrees Celsius on December 13, while the average mean maximum temperature was recorded at 26.3 degrees Celsius, marginally 0.1 degrees below normal.

Rainfall activity across Tripura remained negligible throughout December. Very light rainfall was reported only in West Tripura district, while the rest of the state experienced completely dry conditions. Overall, only trace rainfall was recorded against the normal monthly average of 11.6 mm, resulting in a rainfall deficit of 100 per cent.

Station-wise data showed that Agartala recorded the highest rainfall at just 0.7 mm during the entire month. The same amount also marked the highest 24-hour rainfall, recorded on December 30. District-wise, West Tripura registered the highest rainfall at 0.2 mm, reflecting a sharp departure of minus 98 per cent from normal levels.

The report highlighted that December 2025 was marked by unusually dry conditions across Tripura, with persistent fog emerging as the dominant weather feature during the month.
