Tripura tightens security for Unity Promo Fest finale

Security arrangements across Agartala were intensified ahead of the 12 December closing ceremony of the Unity Promo Fest 2025, an event expected to draw one of the season’s largest crowds.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on 11 December that the police and administration were treating the finale as a high-priority security operation. He said after reviewing preparations at Swami Vivekananda Maidan that officials “didn’t want any disturbance”.

According to authorities, CCTV cameras were installed across the venue, volunteers and police personnel were deployed in plain clothes, and additional forces were positioned at key locations in the city. Chowdhury said the inspection team included senior police and tourism officials to ensure “no issues” arose for the Chief Minister, members of the Council of Ministers, or other dignitaries attending.

The closing ceremony was expected to see a sharp rise in footfall, with Bollywood singer Jubin Nautiyal scheduled to perform and Tripura Tourism’s brand ambassador Sourav Ganguly set to make an appearance. Demand for entry passes exceeded expectations, with the minister noting that people “were demanding more” and voicing hope that the event might set “a new record”.

Chowdhury said final preparations were being completed under strict police and district administration supervision. He added that officials wanted full cooperation with the police and “didn’t want any confrontation”.

He later chaired a final review meeting at the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation office at Palace Compound, where senior departmental officials assessed readiness for what the government expected to be a major showcase event for the state.
