Tripura Traffic Police Detain Over 100 Autos, E-Rickshaws for Violating Agartala Restrictions

Agartala, August 21: Tripura Traffic Police detained more than 100 autorickshaws and e-rickshaws on Friday for allegedly violating restrictions on their movement within Agartala city.

Tripura Traffic Police Superintendent Kanta Jangir said autorickshaws and e-rickshaws operating outside the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area are not permitted to enter and operate within the city under the notified 15-km operational radius.

Radhanagar Bus Stand, Chandrapur Inter-State Bus Stand and Nagerjala Bus Stand have been designated as operational limits for such vehicles. Officials said some autos continued to enter the city and operate beyond the permitted areas, creating difficulties in traffic management.

Exceptions have been allowed for passengers travelling for emergencies, including students and patients.

Jangir said the department had conducted awareness programmes, held meetings with auto-rickshaw unions and issued notices to drivers regarding the restrictions. Despite these measures, some vehicles allegedly continued to violate the rules.

The latest detentions were made during a special enforcement drive on Friday. Traffic Police said such drives would continue to ensure compliance and improve traffic management in Agartala.
