Guwahati, May 24: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said Cachar Police intercepted a truck carrying banned Codeine Phosphate syrup worth around Rs 2.1 crore as part of the state’s continuing anti-drug drive.
Sharing details of the operation on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said the action was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs received by the police.
According to Sarma, the police team in Cachar intercepted the vehicle and recovered the contraband consignment during the operation. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.
“Update on #AssamAgainstDrugs. Based on reliable inputs, a truck was intercepted by Cachar Police leading to the recovery of Rs 2.1 crore worth of banned Codeine Phosphate Syrup. One individual has been arrested. Our efforts to dismantle the drugs network will continue,” he posted on X.
The Assam government has intensified anti-narcotics operations under its #AssamAgainstDrugs campaign, with police and enforcement agencies carrying out frequent raids and seizures across the state to curb drug trafficking networks.
