Sports Desk: Tunisia have reportedly parted ways with head coach Sabri Lamouchi following the team’s humiliating 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026, making him the first managerial casualty of the tournament. The crushing Group F loss in Monterrey exposed Tunisia’s defensive frailties, with Sweden producing a dominant display led by Yasin Ayari, who scored twice. Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Mattias Svanberg were also on target as the Scandinavian side stormed to victory.

According to multiple media reports, the Tunisian Football Federation held emergency discussions after the defeat and decided to relieve Lamouchi of his duties just days into the competition. Lamouchi, who was appointed in January this year, managed only five matches with the national team. Following the match, Lamouchi admitted that costly errors had proved decisive. “It’s a difficult loss. It’s painful. Starting the competition with this bad of a loss is indeed difficult,” he said.
Tunisia’s World Cup campaign now hangs in the balance, with crucial Group F fixtures against Japan and the Netherlands still to come. The North African side will be hoping that a swift change in leadership can revive their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages.
