GUWAHATI: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Panbazar Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized suspected heroin from their possession in Guwahati on June 19.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding suspected drug-related activities, police conducted an operation near the Railway Parking area adjoining Shiv Mandir under the jurisdiction of Panbazar Police Station.
During the search, the police recovered 12.69 grams of suspected heroin concealed inside a soap case. The contraband was seized in the presence of witnesses after following prescribed legal procedures.
The arrested persons were identified as Rajiv Das and Rahul Ali. Both have been taken into custody and are being interrogated to ascertain the source of the narcotics and to determine whether they are linked to a wider drug trafficking network.
Police officials said a case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is in progress.
The latest seizure forms part of the ongoing anti-narcotics drive launched by Assam Police to curb the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs across the state. Investigators are also attempting to identify other individuals connected to the seized contraband and trace the supply chain behind the operation.
