Two Arrested in East Siang as Police Seize Ganja in Operation Dawn 2.0 Narcotics Crackdown

East Siang Police have continued their determined efforts in the anti-narcotics campaign, “Operation Dawn 2.0,” resulting in the arrest of two alleged drug peddlers, one of whom is a woman, and the seizure of a total of $69.95$ grams of suspected ganja across two separate operations over the past few days. The initial breakthrough occurred on November 30 when police personnel, enforcing the Model Code of Conduct in preparation for the upcoming Panchayat and Municipal elections, established a naka at the 2-Mile check gate. During a standard inspection, Karson Pait, a resident of Dhemaji, Assam, was intercepted, and authorities recovered $14.61$ grams of suspected ganja. Following the recovery, a case was immediately registered against Pait under Section 20(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Pasighat Police Station.

During subsequent interrogation, Karson Pait provided a crucial lead, revealing that he had obtained the illicit substance from a woman based in Silapathar, Assam. Acting swiftly on this information, the Anti-Drugs Squad, under the direction of DySP Ayup Boko and led by SI Johny Tasung and SI Kuncha Tangha, launched a coordinated raid on December 2. The operation successfully apprehended the second accused, identified as Bhanu Chetri, also known as Gita Chetri, from the Lakhimpur district. From her possession, police recovered a further $55.34$ grams of suspected ganja.

Both of the arrested individuals have since been transported to Pasighat to face further legal proceedings; the female accused has been placed under the custody of the Women Police Station. East Siang Superintendent of Police, Pankaj Lamba, offered his commendation for the police team’s prompt and effective action. He also took the opportunity to reiterate the department’s unwavering policy of zero tolerance toward narcotics and called upon the public to actively support the ongoing efforts aimed at establishing a drug-free district.
