Basistha Police in Guwahati have arrested two men in connection with alleged thefts and recovered around 100 kg of aluminium wire and 40 Dextrose injections from their possession, officials said.
The accused were identified as Abdur Rahim, arrested from Behebar, and Anshuman Basumatary, apprehended from Amtola.
Police said the duo was allegedly involved in thefts reported from different parts of Guwahati. During the operation, officers recovered around 100 kg of aluminium wire suspected to have been stolen.
The police also seized 40 Dextrose injections reportedly meant for use under the National Health Mission (NHM). Investigators are examining their source and how they came into the possession of the accused.
The seized materials have been taken into police custody as part of the investigation. Police are also probing whether the recoveries point to the involvement of a wider theft network.
Investigators are working to establish the source of the aluminium wire and medical supplies and determine whether other persons were involved in the alleged thefts.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the two men’s alleged involvement in theft cases across Guwahati and identify other members, if any, of the suspected network.
