Assam Police have arrested two absconding accused in connection with an alleged human trafficking and prostitution racket operating from two spa centres in Silchar, officials said.
The accused, identified as Rohit Debnath and Rupali Das, were apprehended during a special operation conducted on Saturday night, according to Cachar Additional Superintendent of Police Manas Saikia.
The arrests stem from a police raid carried out on June 25 at Lotus Spa and Lovely Spa, both located in a commercial complex in Silchar. During the operation, police detained around 28 women from the two establishments.
Following the raid, police registered a case against Debnath and Das, who are alleged to own the spa centres, accusing them of involvement in human trafficking and prostitution. Investigators said the duo had remained on the run since the case was registered.
Police said the accused were tracked down and taken into custody during the latest operation. Further investigation into the case is in progress.
