Two Bangladeshi Nationals Held at Tripura Railway Station During Joint GRP–BSF Check

Two Bangladeshi nationals were detained by the Government Railway Police (GRP) during a joint verification drive with the Border Security Force (BSF) at Udaipur railway station in Tripura’s Gomati district on Tuesday morning, December 16.

Officials said the duo was intercepted from the station premises during a routine check after their behaviour raised suspicion. During initial questioning, they reportedly appeared nervous and gave contradictory responses about their identity and travel plans. After sustained interrogation, both admitted to being citizens of Bangladesh who had entered India without valid documents in search of employment.

The detained individuals have been identified as Md Ibrahim, 34, and Shakib ul Hasan, 18, natives of Bangladesh’s Rajshahi district. According to police sources, Md Ibrahim claimed he had entered Tripura around three months ago and had since worked as a mason at multiple locations, including Charilam in Sepahijala district, the Battala area of Agartala in West Tripura, and parts of Udaipur in Gomati district. He told investigators that he was travelling onward to Odisha for work at the time of his detention.

Shakib ul Hasan, meanwhile, revealed that he had crossed into Tripura nearly one and a half years ago with the assistance of touts. He stated that he was heading towards Chennai in search of better employment opportunities when he was picked up by security personnel.

Police officials said both men are being questioned further to verify details related to their illegal entry, movement across states and the possible involvement of agents facilitating cross-border infiltration. Legal action is being initiated as per established procedures, and investigations are ongoing.
