SENAPATI: Tension prevailed in Taphou village in Manipur’s Senapati district after two houses, reportedly belonging to members of the Naga and Kuki communities, were allegedly set ablaze by armed miscreants early Monday.
According to sources, the incident occurred at around 4.30 am when armed individuals allegedly targeted and set fire to the two houses. One of the houses reportedly belonged to a Kuki family and the other to a Naga family.
The incident raised concerns over a possible escalation of tensions in the area, which has remained sensitive amid the continuing ethnic conflict in Manipur.
Security personnel were deployed in Taphou and surrounding areas, with security measures strengthened to prevent any further escalation.
There was no official statement from the Manipur government or district authorities regarding the incident as of Monday morning. Details of the extent of damage, possible casualties and the identities of those responsible were not immediately available.
The situation remained tense as authorities assessed the incident and monitored developments in the area.
