Guwahati, April 28: Two persons sustained serious injuries after a head-on collision between two motorcycles on Zoo Road in Guwahati late on the night of April 26, police said.
The accident took place near a petrol pump along the busy stretch, which continues to see considerable vehicular movement even during late hours. Both injured individuals were rushed to a nearby private hospital immediately after the crash. Medical sources confirmed that one of the victims remains in critical condition.
The incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the area. Traffic police personnel reached the spot soon after, cleared the road to restore normal movement, and began examining the footage to determine the sequence of events.
Preliminary findings indicate that one of the motorcycles was being driven on the wrong side of the road, leading to the collision with an oncoming vehicle. The rider allegedly responsible for the crash is reported to have fled the scene shortly after the incident.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Efforts are ongoing to identify and trace the absconding rider using CCTV evidence and other leads.
